Eligibility Criteria for Australian Award Scholarships:

  • Be at least 18 years old on February 1st of the year the scholarship begins.
  • Be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of citizenship; be a citizen of one of the participating nations (as indicated on the Australia Awards website);
  • Not hold permanent residence in Australia, not be an Australian citizen, and not be pursuing permanent residency there;
  • At any time during the application, selection, or mobilization phases, you cannot be married to, engaged to, or a de facto of someone who has Australian or New Zealand citizenship or eligibility for permanent residency (note: people with New Zealand citizenship who live in the Cook Islands, Niue, or Tokelau are eligible but must apply for a Student visa).
  • not be a member of the military right now.
  • not have previously received a long-term Australia Award unless they have lived outside of Australia for twice as long as they were in Australia (for instance, a previous awardee who was on an Australia Awards Scholarship in Australia for four years will
  • not be eligible to apply for another Australia Awards Scholarship until they have lived outside Australia for eight years); have satisfied any particular requirements set forth by the Program A.
  • be able to meet the entrance standards of the institution where the award is to be used. If the recipient cannot meet these conditions, Program Areas may need to withdraw their offer of an award. Program Areas may not request a placement at particular institutions until this is known);
  • possess a student visa and be able to meet all standards set forth by the Department of Home Affairs. If the recipient cannot obtain a visa, it may be necessary for the Program Area to withdraw an award offer;
  • Applicants must inform the Program Area of any connection or relationship to staff employed at Program Areas (including locally engaged staff at the post) or with managing contractors so that the application may be properly and transparently managed. Not be applying for a scholarship for a course of study at a lower academic level than they have already achieved.
